About T’Mimei Lev
T’Mimei Lev is an independent Jewish school for special needs pupils that caters for children from reception age through to the age of 25, allowing young adults with special needs within the community to further their education. We aim to provide the pupils with a broad, creative and stimulating schooling, with a particular emphasis on developing their independent life skills and confidence. Differentiated learning and cross curricular topic teaching is used to ensure that all pupils are encouraged to realise their full potential. Specialist teachers and in-house therapists add depth and breadth to our curriculum, in addition to providing invaluable resources. Pupils are encouraged to learn through investigation and much of the curriculum is hands on to enable all types of learners to access the curriculum. T’Mimei Lev is a school with strong Jewish Values where community and tolerance are encouraged.
The school works in three major areas. Firstly, our school for special needs children within the community that provides a warm and nurturing environment where each child is able to fulfil their potential. Secondly, we provide respite to pupils who have struggled in mainstream school with behaviour issues or a new diagnosis. This respite period enables us to help those pupils and their families with the necessary paperwork and structures to enable them to return to mainstream schooling.
Finally, we provide education and qualifications, Yeshiva/Sem experience, life skills knowledge and career preparation for young adults who would otherwise have no other way to access these services.
We offer official accreditations in ASDAN, AQA and GCSEs with fully trained and qualified staff. We are in the process of moving into NVQ and BTEC with training for ICT and childcare with experience within our onsite nursery. Our post 16 programme also offers career guidance in line with JCOM.
Our onsite facilities include; a swimming pool, a food shop, a kitchen to aid with teaching life skills, access to daily life skills training i.e. using a washing machine, making a bed etc, access to OT and SALT therapists and gardening facilities.
In addition, we offer therapies including animal, music and art therapies/lessons. Our school runs TYL Enterprises dealing with personalised printing on items such as mugs and t-shirts.
Each child receives a tailor-made individualised curriculum including a full Kodesh programme. We also offer opportunities for integration into the community.
